Vail Mountain Saints is not just another fresh food option for your best friend. Dogs weighing over 100 pounds have different dietary needs than their smaller counterparts. Other fresh food companies only increase the amount of food for your dog, not their nutritional needs.
We make our food based upon your dogs life stage. For instance, puppies require less calcium and protein so their joints can grow strong along with the mass of their bodies. Older giants need an increase of protein to maintain their muscle mass and glucosamine chondroitin for joint care. Older dogs also need an increase of Omega-3 fatty acids. Other fresh food companies focus on dogs less than 100 pounds because they are the majority.
Vail, the owner of Vail Mountain Saints has owned giant breeds for over 30 years and has never had a dog develop hip displacia. In addition, all our dogs have lived past the AKC expected age. Our dog life expectancy is higher because we have done extensive research on giant breeds, use FEDIAF Nutritional Guidelines as a basis and have consulted a dietary veterinarian to ensure our product is the best for dogs over 100 pounds.
Vail Mountain Saints is located in Edwards, Colorado. VMS was brought about by a 4th generation mountain girl born and raised in Vail, Colorado. Mountain living is perfect for large breed dogs as many originate from mountains all over the world.
I began cooking for my dogs with absolute confidence because my knowledge of giant breed health is extensive. I have welcomed the many compliments I have received from veterinarians and customers alike. Understanding the breed and methods I use are aimed to protect the health and development of this breed and all large and giant breeds. Large breed dogs are expected to have a life span of 8 to 10 years, I intend to change that. My home grown Saints have lived between 11 to 13 years.
We are adamant about feeding our Saints fresh quality food beginning at birth. Meals are created based on their needs to ensure a long, happy life.
Saint Bernards have been a part of our family for over 30 years. We train, breed, and feed the best.
All entrees are made by our chefs using the freshest ingredients.
Meals are veterinarian directed and nutritional content is based upon The European Pet Food Industry or FEDIAf.
St. Bernard's are categorized as a giant breed originating from the Swiss Alps. Monks would use the original Alipine Mastiff to seek out stranded travelers in need of help. Unfortunately, parvo ravaged the Alpine Mastiff population. Monk St. Bernard took the few remaining Alpine Mastiffs and bred them with Nuefolundlands(Rough Coat) and Great Danes(Smooth Coat). Traditional Alpine Mastiffs had medium haired coats.
The average weight of the breed is between 125 and 200 lbs. I fell in love with this breed because of their dispositions and fundamentals. Rescue is ingrained in their DNA.
Saint Bernard's are not built for running and jogging. They enjoy less cardio activities such as hiking, walking, and swimming. Playing ball does not typically interest Saint's.
I did train one to get the morning paper. He would typically drop it halfway up the driveway.
Many think Saint Bernards require large homes with expansive yards to live. This is a common misconception. Truth is, Saint Bernard’s are considered a placid breed that can exist happily in an apartment. In fact, heavy exercise is detrimental on their hips and joints.
People often ask me how big their feeding troff is. Another misconception. Because of their low activity level, Saint's eat only what they need.
People often relate Saint Bernard's to the movie Cujo, and turning on their owners. Saint Bernard's are gentle giants. Abuse will develop mistrust of the individual(s) and anyone that has similar dress, features, or demeanor. Reactions can range from aggression to cowering and urination upon approach.

Testimonials
Valentine is sharing a moment of truth and awe. He ate his dinner of the yummy Bison & Beef Pot Roast mixed with Science Diet. Unfortunately, I was drinking too much water before bed, which began this upsetting series of events. I decided to get up on my mommy's bed when I accidentally threw up. It was almost midnight, almost 8 hours since my last meal. Surprisingly, the only thing left in my stomach was water and all the processed dry food. All the fresh food had been digested, not the processed veterinarian approved dry food.
These are the days!
